Cafe Ran Hotei is in an antique Japanese House.
The interior theme is the Taisho era (1912-1926) meets Art Deco.
When Samurai's era finished in 1868, Western culture came to Japan.
And during the Taisho era, Western culture spread more widely throughout among the general public.
It's my favourite era because the culture was totally mixed with Japanese traditional and Western modernism.
European style antique sofa and tables, and the counter next to Japanese tatami and Japanese traditional low table.
Lovely chandelier in Japanese antique house....
There is a room for tea ceremony upstairs.
Those dolls are Hotei, who is one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Japan and the symbol of the cafe.
On tatami, there is a beautiful carbet, and European style table set, which makes nice mixed style of Japanese and European.
And you can see the traditional Japanese garden from there.
They change hanging scrolls every seasons. How nice.
They have plenty choice of teatime menu, but they also have lunch menu.
The curry is the most popular menu there.
Curry was imported to Japan in Taisho era.
Another plate was Meat balls in tomato stew. It was delicious too!
For teatime, they have matcha (green tea) and Japanese traditional sweets, but also European style sweets, such as cakes and parfaits.
The owner of the cafe is actually Canadian, and also a master of tea ceremony.
My mister was glad to talk to him as he couldn't talk in English in Japan except to me.
It seemed that staff could speak English a little too.
You can also experience Japanese traditional tea ceremony there, and a teacher will be the owner, so you can still enjoy that in English!
Lovely Japanese antique cafe, delicious meal, and English tea ceremony experience, I have to recommend the cafe to you if you would like to know about Japanese culture!
