Afternoon tea party in 20's style @ Betty Blythe

先週の週末、女子限定のお誕生日アフタヌーンティーパーティに招待されました。

場所は、私も以前から目をつけていた、ハマースミスにあるBetty Blythe。


I was invited to the birthday afternoon tea party only for girls last weekend.
The venue was Betty Blythe in Hammersmith, where I have wanted to go.

ベティ・ブライスはハマースミスの閑静な住宅街にあるこじんまりとした秘密のティールーム。

 Betty Blythe is a cosy secret tea room in a quiet resident area in Hammersmith.

1階のスペースはほんとにこじんまりしていて、テーブルも3，4席。

実は今までこられなかったのは、このカフェ、大変人気で、週末は予約のみだからなのです。

（でも、テイクアウェイなら受け付けているようで、ドリンクを買いに来ているお客さんはちらほらいました。

だから今回は、やっと来られてわくわくしっぱなし。


The reason why I had not come here was, they were so popular that the weekend is booking only.
(Apparently, they accepted takeaway customers, some customers dropped in while we were there.)
So I was very excited to go to the tea room.

お店の中にはかわいいパッケージのお菓子やヴィンテージドレスが飾られて。

乙女心をくすぐるディスプレイで、心が躍ります。


The tea room was displayed with sweets in cute packages and vintage dresses.
It was so lovely,



そしていよいよ、アフタヌーンティーの用意してある階下へ…

And now, we went to downstairs for the party....

テーブルには色とりどりのティーカップたちと、お花、そしてパールに、きらきらに輝くシャンペングラス。

カップとソーサー、ケーキプレートはどれもミスマッチ、だけどそれがまたなんともかわいい。


On the table, colourful teacups, flowers, pearls, and shiny champagne glasses.
Tableware was all mismatched.   But that was so cute.

まだパーティーは始まりません。

その前にみんなでドレスアップします!!

ドレッサーの中にはたくさんのヘアアクセサリーやネックレス、手袋などなど。

 思い思いに着飾って、20年代風に変身。


The party was not started yet.  We had to dress up first!
There were lots of hair accessories, necklaces, gloves, and so on.
We were in 20's style each according to our own fancy.

このカフェの名前になっている、ベティ・ブライス。 (偶然、このティールームのある通りの名前もブライス!）

彼女は20年代に活躍した無声映画の女優で、その当時のセックスシンボルとも言える代表的な女優でした。

このティールームは彼女をフィーチャーし、ドレスアップの小道具も彼女をイメージして集められています。


The name of the tea room, Betty Blythe came from the real actress in 20's.
(How interesting, the street where this tea room is also called Blythe Street)
She was in silent films and well known as a sex symbol in those days.
The tea room featured her, and you can dress up like her with accessories in the dresser.

さて、ドレスアップもすんで、紅茶も来たことだし、パーティの始まりです。

Our dressing up has done, the teas are ready, let's start the party!

まずはサンドイッチから。

非常にイギリス的なメニュー。パンがふわふわでおいしい。


Started from the sandwiches.
Very English, the bread was so soft and fresh!

 アフタヌーンティーに欠かせないのスコーン。

こちらもフレッシュでおいしかった!


Afternoon tea MUST has scones.
It was delicious too!

まだまだ出てくるスィーツたち…

一口チョコケーキに、レモンドリズルケーキ、マカロン…


The sweets were served one after another....
Little chocolate cakes, lemon drizzle cakes, macaroons......

そして極め付けが、友人たちが持ち込んだバースデーケーキ!!

とっても豪華!!　もちろん全部は食べ切れませんでしたよ…

それどころか私は出されたケーキも全部には手をつけられず。


And finally, the huge birthday cake!!
It was so gorgeous, of course we couldn't finish it...
I even couldn't touch all of their cakes.....

それでもやっぱり、かわいいもの、美しいものに囲まれて、
女の子同士できゃっきゃ騒ぐのは、いくつになっても楽しいものですね!

「真夜中のパリ」や「偉大なるギャツビー」など、去年20年代が注目されましたが、
こちらのティールームでは、「グレート・ギャツビー・カナッペ・メニュー」なるものもあるようです。

20年代好きの私はかなり気になる!

他にもキッズ用にアフタヌーンティーや、ジュエリーメイキングなどのいろいろなプランがあるようで、楽しそう。

イギリスに来たからには、アフタヌーンティーと思っていらっしゃる方、ガーリー気分を思いっきり味わい方にお勧めです。


It's always so much fun to talk and eat with girl friends in the beautiful room with cute items.
As 20's style was in the spotlight last year after the films "Midnight in Paris" and "The Great Gatsby" came out,
they have "The Great Gatsby canape menu" as well.
I love 20's style so I am quite interested in it!
They also have various plans for kids, such as afternoon tea, the jewellery making etc.
If you would like to try afternoon tea, or to get a girly feeling, I definitely recommend this tea room.
